Report of the Green Cabinet Exploratory Committee

"Imagine for a moment a different style of campaign for 2004...one based on substantive issues and problem-solving in each of the cabinet areas; a campaign in which Ralph (or..who?) shows his savvy and connections by pre-naming a campaign cabinet instead of dangling those positions before multiple possible cabinet members to pull from them support in the election, like one would hold out an implicit ambassadorship in return for contributions.

Imagine a team approach to a presidential campaign:

1. As photogenic as a football team, but instead of muscle you see experience and wisdom and public service displayed;

2. Media would have to contrast the sleaze-team of corporate pimps and con-men Bush has put in and their record of conquest, skimming and cronyism.

3.. Green candidates around the country would have ten extra national figures to boost their campaigns with added media interest and added ability to offer people substantive solutions to problems endemic to their area. (The secretary of agriculture needn't campaign in urban areas, for example.)

We urge GPUS to immediately add this or a similar plank pointing toward what M. Scott Peck calls a 'community presidency.' and what Gray Panthers Maggie Khun called, 'a honey of an idea.'

"We support a presidential candidate embodying this platform by designating probable cabinet members who will travel the country, giving the party ten times the exposure; widen the debate; bring support to local green candidates; provide a high-contrast to the corporatists currently in cabinet positions; and excite and charm the 80% of Americans who don't vote.... with a new non-patriarchal mode of campaigning that emphasizes a working circle of intelligence."

There is very wide support for this approach found at www.greencabinet.org, which features the now-stalled work of the unwisely abandoned shadow-cabinet committee. We the undersigned have picked this work up as the ad-hoc Green Cabinet Committee. We urge your active exploration with us of this anti-patriarchal model of campaigning. We urge you to network this concept for a greener future"
